ONSF Hosts Ardsley High School Pre-Med Club

On April 24th Dr. Kowalsky and the ONS Foundation hosted the Ardsley High School Pre-medical Club for another visit to the bioskills laboratory.  In previous years, the group learned how to suture using pig feet as a model, and participated in a cadaver lab examining the anatomy of the shoulder and knee.

This year, they learned about the principles of arthroscopic surgery and fracture repair, and had an opportunity to perform these surgical procedures on models.  Each student learned how to handle the arthrosope to visualize key structures within the knee joint, to remove loose bodies, and treat meniscus cartilage tears. They also performed fracture repair using an intramedullary nail for hip fracture, and a plate and screws for a forearm fracture.

The ONS Foundation looks forward to welcoming another group of aspiring health care professionals from high schools throughout Fairfield and Westchester counties as a part of its upcoming mini-medical school program.
